Structural failures happen when a building, bridge, or other infrastructure fails to function as intended. This can lead to partial or total collapse, damage, or safety issues. These failures can stem from various factors:

Design Flaws: Errors in calculations, inadequate load assumptions, or insufficient consideration of environmental factors.

Material Deficiencies: Substandard materials, poor quality control during construction, or unexpected material degradation over time.

Construction Defects: Improper construction techniques, negligence in following specifications, or lack of oversight during the building process.

Natural Disasters: Earthquakes, hurricanes, floods, and other extreme events that exceed the structure’s design capacity.

1. Tacoma Narrows Bridge (1940):-

The Tacoma Narrows Bridge in Washington State, USA, collapsed just months after opening. The failure was caused by aeroelastic flutter:
